How she had been waiting for him, how she knew Samer would come later, and that Karim would come before him.
"I didn't know Rana was planning this," Karim wrote, "but when I entered the room, I found Rana sitting on the edge of the bed, wearing a black robe, looking at me with a cold smile. She wasn't crying. She wasn't asking for help. She said: 'Karim, Samer thinks I need calm, but I need revenge. And you—you are the tool.'"
Hala paused in her reading, taking a deep breath. The words pierced her chest. This wasn't just a random betrayal; it was a deliberate plan. Rana, her sister, had used Karem as a means of revenge against Samer, while Karem, her old colleague, was her accomplice in this scheme.
"Why?" Hala typed in the chat, but before Karem could reply, he continued typing.
"Because Samer," Karem wrote, "thought he controlled everyone. He thought he could sleep with Rana, then return to Hala, and justify everything. But Rana knew. She knew Samer was betraying her, and she knew Karem was betraying her too. She wanted everyone to feel the same pain she had felt."
Hala felt a deep shock. She was not the only victim; she was part of the game. Samer, Rana, and Karim were all playing roles in a play revolving around her, but they were the ones holding the strings. "I didn't know Rana was planning this," Karim wrote, "but when I saw her, I realized everything was part of a plan. She knew Samer would come, that Karim would come, and that Hala would discover everything. She wanted to make everyone feel guilty, betrayed, and broken." Hala read the message, her eyes welling with tears, but these tears were not from sorrow, but from anger. She was angry at herself, at Samer, at Rana, and at Karim.
